PARKS

Park Circle

This park is the downtown center and also the center of Allegany County. Within the park is a basketball court, gazebo for music, Rouqe Court [Croquet Court], playground, benches and open space. Around the outside of the park are located the churches: Catholic Church, Methodist Church, Community Center which is the former Presbytyrian Church, Episcopal Church and Baptist Church. The Town Hall [former County Hall] is here as well as the Post Office. The Park Circle B&B is located here. A half dozen private Homes are also located on the park circle.

Sylor Memorial Bridge over the Joncy Gorge

This is said to be the longest single wooden span bridge in the United States. Located on West Main Street as you head out toward Six-S Golf Course. The gorge drops approximately 100' from the top to bottom with Angelica Creek flowing through. There is a parking area on the south side with a small boardwalk to view the bridge.

Village Fields

The Village purchased the fields adjacent to the old Angelica Central School in 2004. These fields have room for baseball, softball and soccer practices and are used throughout the summer by various leagues. Also on this site is a dated workout facility and a nice playground.

Tennis Court

A single tennis court is available off of Allegany Street. While not well maintained it is good for practice and fun. This court is not for skateboards and bikes.

GOLF

Six-S Golf Course
Just west of the Village of Angelica is the great
Six-S Golf Course sporting two full 18-hole courses,
putting greens, equipment & cart rentals, and an
on-site club house featuring bar & grill. Take Main Street

west about 3 miles out of the Village.

Vanderview Golf Course
Located near Alfred on Waterwells Road. Take CR 20 to
CR 48 to Belmont. Take NYS 244 east to 5 corners. Turn
Right onto CR 10 and go less than 1 mile. Turn left and
proceed up hill. Course is on left.

PAINTBALL

GRC Paintball

Located just west of the Village on VanAllen Road offers a paintball course to occupy an afternoon. Contact them at 585-365-2470.

HIKING

Many hiking opportunities are available at the State and County Forests and the nearby state parks. See the Nature section for information on these facilities.

The Finger Lakes Trail passes through many of the State Forests. Maps are available from the FLT Service Center 585-288-7191 or you can check out their website: www.fingerlakestrail.org

Genesee Valley Greenway - this 99 mile trail extends from Cuba, NY to Rochester, NY. It is less than 10 miles from Angelica and can be picked up at many points along the way. While some parts are still under reconstruction it is quite passable in most places. Good for a hike or a mountain bike ride.

SNOWMOBILING

Snowmobile Routes are abundant throughout Allegany County. You should contact a snowmobile club for proper route information. Never trespass on others land with your machine.

SKIING

Swain Ski Resort

Located northeast of Angelica about 15 miles. Downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing, half-pipe facilities are available here. With a 600 foot drop all levels of skiers are challenged on these slopes. Call Swain for conditions and hours. 607-545-6511 From Angelica take Main Street east (changes into CR 16) up to Birdsall. Turn right in Birdsall onto CR 15B and follow to NYS 70. Turn left and proceed a short distance to turn into Swain on CR 24. www.swain.com

Cross Country Skiing

Phillips Creek [2,709 acres] & Turnpike State Forests [4,744 acres] with over 25 miles of hiking and cross country trails. Palmer's Pond Day Use [3,645 acres] area that offers picnic area alongside a nice remote pond in the forest. From Angelica take CR 20 to CR 48 to Belmont. Turn left onto NYS Rt 244. Proceed past Phillips Creek about 1 mile. Parking area is on the left near the top of the hill across from Stuck Hill Road.

ATV Routes

Unfortunately there are no known designated ATV trails in the nearby area of Angelica as of this time.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES

Summer Recreation Program: Every summer the Village provides a program for the youth of the immediate area. The program generally runs 3 days a week from 9 AM - 3 PM. Programs are held at the old school building [now the Centerpoint Academy] where games and crafts are done. Then day trips are taken for Glow Bowling, Rushford Beach, roller skating, James Street Park [Hornell] swimming, Genesee Valley School Pool swimming, and 1 trip to a Rochester Redwings baseball game. Contact the Village Clerk for information on the program.

Angelica Atheletic Programs: The Angelica Atheletic Association coordinates inter-community T-Ball, Baseball, Softball, Soccer and Basketball programs for children over age 5. Other communities that they play include Belmont, Friendship, Bolivar, Richburg, Belfast, Houghton & Scio.

Angelica Sledge Soccer: The Angelica Sledge Soccer Team is an over age 18 team that plays during the summer at the Angelica Field for men in the area.
